Wentworth Miller Speaks Directly To Us

CUORE MAGAZINE 2006 (TRANSLATION)

WENTWORTH MILLER

“I AM SO GOOD IN BED THAT WOMEN YELL OUT MY NAME.”

Prison Break has made him famous worldwide.

The show received
the People’s Choice Award as the
best new TV drama for 2006

The show which tells the story of a group of inmates who attempt to
escape from prison has taken this actor from relatively obscurity to
appearing on TV’s sexist men lists.

He is sexy, biracial, new to the fame game and excessively shy.
Wentworth Miller (34), the protagonist of Prison Break spoke exclusively to
Cuore about his success and expectations in Hollywood. Considered to be
one of the sexiest men on the planet, Wentworth is as attractive in
person as he is on screen and has eyes that can take your breath away with
a single glance.

– What were you doing this summer? Did you do any films?
No, I was relaxing. I had been working hard all year during the first
season of the show and when I finished I was burnt out. I spent all of
my energy travelling by car from Chicago to Los Angeles.

– The famous Route 66?
I took a route parallel to it, just me and my small Corolla. It was a
fantastic trip that gave me some perspective on my new reality. I saw
the lives of strangers that had nothing to do with Hollywood. These were
people who didn’t care about how much money their last film made or
whether they were going to be on for another season. I needed to
disconnect and detoxify myself from Hollywood.

– It sounds like you really don’t care about the results of your
work?
– Yes and no. I love the show but, at the same time I am not tied down
by it. I don’t think, or at least I hope that this show will not be
the most important work that I do in my career. For me, this is a good
show that will lead me to greater things. I am happy with the way
audiences have responded to the show and that it is a success.

– Has your life drastically changed in the last six months when the
show became a success in America?
Television is a powerful medium. Now I have “friends” in every city
in the U.S. Everyone wants something from me. They know me but I
don’t know them (laughs). A lot of people talk to me on the street. I feel
different now. I feel that I have lost my privacy and this is very
strange for me because I am still the same person inside, with the same
fears and insecurities that I had before.

– Do women now give you their phone numbers without you having to ask
them their names?
It is now easier to pick someone up in certain situations and yes, they
do give me their phone numbers without me having to ask them their
names. However, occasionally I have been in situations in which women have
been more attracted to the character that I play than with me.

– What does Wentworth look for in a woman?
I believe that confidence is the key to many things. One can talk about
a sense of humour or style but the most attractive aspect of a woman is
her confidence; that she feels comfortable in her own skin. Ideally, I
would like to find a woman that understands what it is like to be with
an actor without being an actress herself. I want a woman who keeps my
feet on the ground and holds my hand while I am off going around in
circles. Like somebody who works in the accounting department of a film
company. (laughs) …

– Have you already found her?
No. Not yet …

I don’t think (or at least I hope not) that this show will be the
most important work that I do in my career.

Attractive and a Winner

Accompanied
After the Golden Globes, he went to the after party with fellow actress

A Young Actor with Promise
He showed his acting potential from the very beginning with his role in
Dinatopia.

Wentworth Miller, even at 34, has confessed that he has not found the
right woman. He likes brunettes, but the most important thing that
catches his attention is a woman’s confidence. His career began with
Dinatopia (2002) and he jumped to the big screen with the movie The Human
Stain (2003). In the film, he portrayed Anthony Hopkins’ character as a
young man. His filmography includes the movie Underworld, with Kate
Beckinsale.

– If women were divided into two camps, blondes and brunettes, which
camp would you chose?
I like brunettes. For many years I was in love with Angie Harmon, the
actress from Law and Order.

– What has been the best offer that you have received from a woman?
Up until now it has not happened. Many people hesitate before talking
to an actor, but my character has received a lot of mail (and some of
them using steamy language.) My character has had more success than I
have had (laughs). When I am walking down the street, women ask me for my
autograph, a kiss and take pictures with their cell phones.

– Have you had an experience where you have been called Michael in bed?
No, but I do remember that they have called me Michael at the dry
cleaners. I am good enough in bed that women yell out my name and not
Michael.

– Is it hard for you to film a show in a prison that is racially
divided?
I have taken care when picking projects that deal with race. However,
this is not the principle theme of Prison Break. And as long as we keep
it like that then all is well. As an actor, I exist in an environment
in which the characters do not necessarily look like me or have to be
like me. I said yes to Prison Break for the experience and because I
needed the money. I didn’t do it to create controversy with my
personality.

“I have always been with white people when they made jokes about
blacks.”

– Halle Berry has said that for her it was very difficult growing up in
America with a white mother and a black father. What has your
experience been like?
I have had a different experience because you can not tell my race by
my skin colour. I have always been with white people. I have also found
myself with them when they make jokes about black people. At that
moment you find yourself in a dilemma: Do you stop the party and tell them
that you are black and that the joke was done in bad taste or do you say
nothing at all?

– What other interests do you have besides acting?
I like to swim, read and take naps. I am also writing a script. I
really enjoy looking at paintings, listening to music, seeing movies, going
to the theatre; everything that surrounds an actor. You never know
where you are going to find something that inspires you.

– Do you need to do physical exercise?
It’s difficult to establish an exercise schedule when you do not know
what hours you are going to work every day, but I have made the
decision to keep myself in shape. My character is the smarter of the two
brothers therefore I am not obligated by contract to go to the gym every
day. (laughs)

– They say that you use blue contact lenses. Is it true?
I think it has to do with the lighting and no I have not changed the
colour of my eyes.

This may just be one of the best things I have ever read. Where to begin? What am I saying I know exactly where to start.

I am good enough in bed that women yell out my name and not Michael.

Oh you are plenty good if my fantasies are any indication and I yell out your name all the time…

I took a route parallel to it, just me and my small Corolla.

He’s a Corolla man and that is EXACTLY the way I would have pegged him. A reliable and practical vehicle that is not at all flashy. It fits him.

I don’t think, or at least I hope that this show will not be the most important work that I do in my career.

I hope not too. I’d like to see you go on to do great things but for now I hope you are enjoying yourself. *throwing panties in Went’s direction*

And now for the words you were all longing to hear that might somehow give you the strength to go on:

– What does Wentworth look for in a woman?
I believe that confidence is the key to many things. One can talk about a sense of humour or style but the most attractive aspect of a woman is her confidence; that she feels comfortable in her own skin. Ideally, I would like to find a woman that understands what it is like to be with an actor without being an actress herself. I want a woman who keeps my feet on the ground and holds my hand while I am off going around in circles. Like somebody who works in the accounting department of a film company. (laughs)…

– Have you already found her?
No. Not yet…

There you have it. You still have a chance; Well not really because you’ll probably never meet him…Did I just say that? I’m sorry. You will meet him and he will fall helplessly in love with you and you will get married and have many children, but no pets.

– If women were divided into two camps, blondes and brunettes, which camp would you chose?
I like brunettes. For many years I was in love with Angie Harmon, the actress from Law and Order.

Do you hear that sound? It’s the sound of all the blondes in the world running to their neighborhood drugstore for some Garnier Nutrisse. If it worked for SJP it can work for you too.

– What has been the best offer that you have received from a woman?
Up until now it has not happened. Many people hesitate before talking
to an actor, but my character has received a lot of mail (and some of them using steamy language.) My character has had more success than I have had (laughs). When I am walking down the street, women ask me for my autograph, a kiss and take pictures with their cell phones.

Oh Went, I wouldn’t hesitate, my mouth may hang open for a second or two and I might stare like a crazy person but when my “Hi” finally comes out it will sound completely normal. Your character has received a lot of mail? Oh no honey, I sent that letter to YOU and apparently, you remember it. *evil grin* Inquiring minds want to know: Do any of the women who seek one actually get this kiss? Really Went, you shouldn’t tell people like me these things because I would definitely want mine with tongue.

I have taken care when picking projects that deal with race. However, this is not the principle theme of Prison Break. And as long as we keep it like that then all is well. As an actor, I exist in an environment in which the characters do not necessarily look like me or have to be like me. I said yes to Prison Break for the experience and because I needed the money. I didn’t do it to create controversy with my personality.

I have had a different experience because you can not tell my race by my skin colour. I have always been with white people. I have also found myself with them when they make jokes about black people. At that moment you find yourself in a dilemma: Do you stop the party and tell them that you are black and that the joke was done in bad taste or do you say nothing at all?

Take that Cornel West. I have seen a quote where he has stated that he is not white but here it seems he comes out and actually calls himself black and while I know this is a translation and could be slightly different than what was actually said, I am inclined to believe it. He also said that the role was for money and because the theme of the show has nothing to do with race. What more do you want from the man?

However, occasionally I have been in situations in which women have been more attracted to the character that I play than with me.

Where can I find these crazy women so I can shoot them? If they don’t want to stay in and watch The Simpsons, drink Cutty and lose at Scrabble to you, I’ll step in. Just tell me when and where.

– They say that you use blue contact lenses. Is it true?
I think it has to do with the lighting and no I have not changed the
colour of my eyes.

Yeah the lighting and photoshop…which I know Went is not your fault.

Loved this article and while I had seen bits and pieces of this info before I have never seen it all at once like this. Thanks geniass for pointing me to it and of course Wentworth Miller Online for the translation.

Wonderful article and very astute commentary. I love the part about him driving a Corolla cross-country and the part about women calling out HIS name in bed, not Michael’s.
He seems to have a great sense of humor. Thanks for posting and keep up the awesome work!

  2. hoosethatgirl

The second to post! Appropriate as this number is asociated in numerology with the feminine principle, and you are reading the mind of a card-carrying, A -level-in shopping woman who, naturally enough, loves Wentworth to bits.

So my considered comment to the response he gets in the bedroom is a big ‘Ulp’! A pretty direct remark from the Pretty.

  3. Anonymous

a very interesting article, WFW! i too am struck by the passage where he refers to himself as “black”…
i believe this is the first instance where he’s straight out said that he identifies as “black”. frankly, i’m not surprised in the least. hopefully the naysayers who have perceived him as evasive on the issue of his race and identity will be silenced.

  4. mink

WFW, we really need to get those Church archives up (including all the past TWoP posts before we got *ahem* ejected), ‘cos if you loved this, there’s loads more of this kind of thing out there. (And BTW, he’s never been evasive about his race, always v. clear that he is “not white”.) It’s only the peeps who’ve never read this kind of wonderful stuff (I mean the ‘unconverted’, natch) who don’t ‘get’ why we fall around in worshipful awe. Tell me you heard the ‘Jackie and Bender’ interview where he talks about driving cross-country – “Just me and my l’il Corolla” – ‘cos if you haven’t, I need to hook you up. NOW! Oh, and the Z100 Interview. Tell me you’ve heard that. ‘Cos if not, you are going to flip when you hear it!

  5. Wet For Went

    Thanks anon 12:44!

hoosethatgirl, he says he’s good enough…such modesty. What he meant to say was that he will fuck you unconscious.

anon 1:31, he has always maintained that he is not white but I had never heard him actually call himself black before. I think the not white comment is common knowledge but not this one.

mink, I knew about the Corolla but there is very little that I have had the pleasure of actually hearing him say (mostly it’s just stuff I read) so I would LOVE that. SEND SEND SEND!

  6. Anonymous

“evasive” is probably the wrong word to use, mink. i know he’s repeatedly stated that he is “not white” but until now, he has never definitively stated that he’s “black”. in some circles, he’s taken some heat for this—and it’s been suggested that he doesn’t “identify” as black or with the black community, etc.
let’s just say that i find this new comment particularly insightful, considering that there seems to be this tendency with many of his white fans to consistently attempt to “whiten” him more. usually this tendency invariably involves questioning whether or not his father is actually “black” or is in reality “half-black”. much of this strikes me as offensive, considering that went has always clearly identified his father as “black”, and, in this particular article, appears to identify himself in the same manner.

  7. Wet For Went

anon 2:29, I know you weren’t talking to me but I’ll asnwer anyway, lol. The press for The Human Stain definitely opened up a dialogue about his racial identity and he has said that he feels like he can answer to either or is sort of a “racial lone ranger” and that he is not white in the past all of which could be interpreted as ambiguous but to me always sounded like he felt like an outsider in the white community. I can’t imagine how torn one must feel when they are not all one thing or the other. I don’t think anyone can please everyone all the time so no matter what he does he will probably always piss SOMEONE off. It’s not his fault what some of his fans want to identify him as but I know what you mean and it pisses me off too. All we can do is listen to what he actually says and just say fuck everyone else. Oh and 13-0 Baltimore baby!!!

  8. mbnd

has anyone noticed that there is always mention of his race “he’s black “..”he’s white ” does it really matter? would we like him any less if he considered himself black? or white ?

  9. Wet For Went

nope mbnd, I would love him just the same either way and you changed your name! LOL 😉 Yes! less typing!

20-10 Ravens! We’re going to the play-offs with our 10-3 record. We are the shit!

I still can’t get over Went’s “I’m good enough in bed that they call out my name not Michael’s” comment. I can’t stop smiling, LMAO.

  10. mbnd

    thanks wet….
I can’t get over his litlle comment either. I on the other hand have to concentrate on calling my out my husband’s name (lmao) so now I’ll just stick to baby & honey. Just to play it safe.

  11. Anonymous

    mbnd, good question!
sadly, race still matters a great deal. honestly, i feel most of his fans would be much more comfortable with him identifying as “white” or “biracial” than black.
for me, the overall discomfort that many of his fans have indicated with his heritage (the constant second-guessing of his father’s “blackness”) leads me to think that people like to give lipservice to it “not mattering”, but in reality, it matters a lot.

  12. Wet For Went

    Very well put, anon 5:22.

  13. mbnd

true so true….although alot of us that do not care…but then there are die hard fans that say they don’t but truth be told they do.
Sadly it’s just the world we live in. I have 2 children 7 & 4.
I have educated my children that we are all human we all come in different color shapes & sizes because if we were all the same life would be boring.

  14. Wet For Went

    awww *cyber hugging mbnd*

  15. geniass

You bet your sweet ass Went that I will most definitely be asking for a kiss the next time we meet again!

  16. notthedoctor

oh definitely ask for a kiss and then grab him and just before the kiss i’d be like “did i mention that i am french?”… and here we go french kissing! EXQUISITE!

and regarding his race, color thingy… we all know he is one and unique, he doesn’t belong Earth, his looks of handsomeness that no word can describe has hypnotised us, he was brought by a spaceship traveling millions of lightyears to bring joy to our hearts and lust in our panties. For he is… THE PRETTY!

  17. Anonymous

someone needs to send this to perez hilton and put these damn gay rumors to rest!

  18. mbnd

perez hilton whoever has nothin better to do but wish all hot looking actors including the god wentworth was gay he probably was wishin he was gonna get some this christmas. well you probably will but with wentworth your barking up the wrong tree.

  19. mélie

Black, white, green , pink or whatever people want to label him, I only care about him being HOT and that’s why I decided to remember only about this quote:

    http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/4285/sogoodik0.png

  20. epantz

what a good article! i love that he is so well spoken… so many actors are such effin airheads, it’s hard to listen to them!!
as for the perez hilton thing… let him thinks what he wants. it’s really sad that he’s trying to push his sexuality on anyone that is remotely attractive (that’s EXACTLY what he’s doing)… he’s trying to out people for his own benefit… i love perez, but i think that aspect of his personality is not so great.
    i think i’m going to send went a letter… i read WFW’s… omg so hillarious… i wish i could write like you… i’m a scholarly writer (essays, thesises, etc). i don’t think he’d appreciate a scholarly fan-letter lmfao.

  21. linds

Ok, I know that everyone else has commented on it already, but that whole they-call-out-my-name-instead-of-michael’s comment sent my ass into a frenzy!!!!! SERIOUSLY. I love Wentworth, and while I am loathe to admit it, that little bit of cockiness just ratcheted it up to the NEXT. LEVEL. Oh, and PS – I don’t know if it’s the glass…okay..two glasses…ok bottle of wine I drank but(!) I am mesmerized by the moving kissing icon with Josie Moran. I pretend it’s me in the icon instead of Josie and he’s talking shit to me saying things like “whats’ my name?” I would so be his baby factory.

  22. Anonymous

“I am good enough in bed that women yell out my name and not Michael.”

Whuuuuttt??? Damn, Wenty! It’s like that? Well, I’m a Show Me State gal, so…I might need a tutorial and play by play. He’s probably great in bed…he seems to be the type that is into hours of foreplay and the marathon stuff…lawdhavemercy! I’m sure between all the “oh God’s” and “oh Jesuses”…one might get a ‘Wentworth’ in there somewhere :o)

As far as Perez goes, he can kick bricks. Even if Wentworth is gay, I’m sure he wouldn’t be his type. Not only is he a sh*t stirrer, he’s too much of a drama queen for Went. I doubt Went would piss on Perez if he were on fire…LOL…maybe R. Kelly would….

  23. amyy

OMG… thanks soo much for posting this,

I have to say WFW that i can’t quite get over that comment either…i did the whole double take and had to re read it a few times..that is THE most adorable, sexy thing i’ve seen about him so far…with that b&w pic a very freaking close second…damn that’s amazing!

can you imagine hearing him say that?! the man has a sense of humour as well..and he’s cheeky! i luv it!

For someone who’s so private this is a lot of info don’t you think??

Perhaps he’s trying to counter the all the gossip.

  27. babe1973

Wow this is the best interview I have read. If I met him, I would rape him and scream his name a thousand times.
There are 3 things that Went has in common with Hugh Laurie:

1 – they are born in Oxfordshire
2 – they are born in june
3 – they have a major from big universities. Hugh went to Cambridge.

Seems like Oxfordshire is the place to be born.

notthedoctor, yes his beauty IS otherworldly.

epantz, you know after I re-read it later I hated it right? I’m my own worst critic. He may like your letter. He’s into brains.

Linds, that is such a sexy quote and you are not the only one that finds cockiness sexy. I’m not going to touch that pun, lol.

anon 12:08, LMFAO @ The R. Kelly comment. Whew! I got a stomach cramp from that.

anon 6:29, not sure but did you click the source link at the end? There might be any exact date at Wentworth Miller Online where I got the article from.

what color is his corolla? i say something really neutral and definitely in the brown family…a tribute to “brown sugar” and his expansive collection of chocolate and caramel-colored blazers. 😉

also, if no woman has ever offered him anything he couldn’t resist, does that mean he’s never been in love? wow…

  31. Anonymous

The colour of the corolla will have to be brown. Hello, it goes with the “brunettes” that he likes. Yay yay yay, jumping up and down for joy on that one. Glad I went back to that side 🙂

  32. redlightmind

I love a little cockiness underneath a shy, strong, silent exterior. Went’s a bad ass and he’s letting us know. I fucking love it!

Anon 12:08, that R.Kelly comment had me rolling!!!

so, he likes bean counters, eh? well, i have a bean you can “count,” Went baby. 😉
